University Debating and Literary Club (UDLC) of Cultural Education Centre (CEC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Global Poetry Forum, 100 Thousand Poets for Change organised a Poetry Reading Session with the young poets of Aligarh at Strachey Hall on September 30, 2017.
University students read out their poems in various languages; English, Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Assamese, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali to name a very few. This event was one of the 700 events organized in 600 cities globally, where approximately 95 countries participated on September 30 in conjunction with 100 Thousand Poets for Change.
Since 2011, 100 Thousand Poets for Change has been working with poets, writers, artists, musicians and many more to help organize events around the world for peace, justice and sustainability. The next global event day is approaching on October 29, this year.
The guests of the evening, Sudhansu Firdaus (research scholar), JMI New Delhi and Dr Jyothsna Phanija, Assistant Professor, Delhi University read out from their poetry collections and interacted with the students of the University.

Prof. Sami Rafiq and Dr. Aysha Munira Rasheed, Department of English, AMU recited their translations of Urdu and English apart from providing an insight into the criticism of such translations. English translation of AMU Tarana (University Anthem) was among attractive reading and listening, kept students fresh enough throughout the event. It was followed by a spoken word poetry session where the students recited their self-composed poems.
The event was organised by the representatives of 100 Thousand Poets for Change, Alisha Ibkar, Assistant Professor, Department of English, AMU and Lubna Irfan (Research Scholar), Department of History, in collaboration with UDLC, AMU.
