In memory of IG Khan, mega painting competition held in AMU

The University Fine Arts Club, Cultural Education Centre, Aligarh Muslim University organized a mega “Art Hub” Painting Competition in memory of Dr. Iqbal Ghani Khan in the Cultural Education Centre lawns.
Dr. Iqbal Ghani Khan was a hugely popular figure and instrumental in setting up the Janvadi Rickshaw-pullers Union. Khan had tied up with a few chemists to give free medicine to the poor. On campus he was popular with teachers and students alike. He was a Fulbright scholar and had completed his doctorate from the University of London.
Khan was kidnapped from Aligarh on February 14, 2003, while going to the history department after dropping wife Zulfia at JN Medical College where she was a teacher then. Apparently, he was abducted and taken to Jujjharpur, about 20 km from Aligarh, where his body was found with the skull smashed and three gunshot wounds.
The competition was divided into four groups. The different topics were assigned to different groups such as “Dreamland” (Group A, class I to V); “Save Nature” (Group B, class VI to IX); “Life in Mist (village life) (Group C, X to XII) and “Life of Rickshaw Pullers” (Group D, class XII onwards).
Students enthusiastically participated and beautifully painted on the above mentioned themes. Around 300 students participated from various schools, colleges and universities of Aligarh.
Prof. FS Sherani, Coordinator, CEC; Dr. Abdur Rahaman, President, University Fine Arts Club, CEC; Mr. Momin Ali, Secretary General Public Relations, CEC were graced the occasion.
The event was conducted by Nagma Shamim, Secretary, University Fine Arts Club, CEC and Afreen Khan, Joint Secretary, University Fine Arts Club along with their club members.
