AMU Bengali Students’ Association celebrate International Mother Language Day

The Bengali Students’ Association of AMU recently organized a programme on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day at the Strachey Hall of AMU. Students of different languages background were present not only from different states of India but also neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, etc.

The programme was inaugurated with a Bengali chorus song. Students of different regions took actively part in different activities such as poetry recitations, songs, skits, short speeches and many more.

Roohi Zuberi, a social activist was present as the chief guest, she acknowledged the contribution of Bengal in India’s freedom movement. She focused on the importance of mother tongue and said that “if you want to kill any Tahzeeb, you should kill his mother tongue.”

Dr. M. Mohibul Haque, Department of Political Science, said that how Aligarh Muslim University becomes the unity in diversity in terms of language variation and motivated students by saying that “student should try their level best for achieving their life’s goal.”

Prof. Samina Khan, Department of English, also talked about the significance of mother tongue in retaining one’s own culture and language.

Mr. Abdul Mabood, Mr. Firoz Iftekhar, Mr. Momin Ali, Mr. Ikbal Ansary, Mr. Bellal Hussain, Mr. Abu Taher and Jamil Hussain were graced the occasion.
